About Harrison Avenue Head Start & Children's Services

For more than 50 years, ABCD has been a leader in providing a wide range of services to low-income families in the Greater Boston area. Through the network of Community Action Agencies, ABCD has been a cornerstone of the War on Poverty and works to ensure that all individuals and families in our community have the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, which was signed into law, created the Community Action Network (CAN). ABCD is proud to be part of this network, with a tripartite board structure consisting of members from the local private sector, public sector, and the low-income community. This board is democratically elected by ABCD's Advisory Board and works together to respond to local needs. For over 50 years, ABCD has been a leader in providing a variety of services to low-income families in the Greater Boston area, and is committed to helping individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency.

ABCD Head Start Program
Head Start is a center-based preschool program that focuses on kindergarten readiness, physical wellness, and the cognitive and socialemotional development of children. Head Start is a family development program that offers comprehensive services for children as well as their entire family. There are multiple ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services programs throughout the cities of Boston, Malden and Everett. Each program has various hours based on family needs and eligibility.

The CDA National Credentialing Program
The Child Development Associate (CDA) program represents a national effort to credential qualified early care and learning professionals who work with children from birth to age 5.

Disabilities Program
A mental health professional is available to every Head Start program to provide mental health services for children and families. Ongoing training and support ensures that ABCD Head Start provides high quality classroom environments that foster success, safety and wellness for each child. Opportunities are available for parents to become partners in their child’s education program.
