About Brazilian-American Center (BRACE) in Framingham, MA

BRACE (Brazilian-American Center) was founded in 2012 by Father Volmar Scaravelli with the mission of helping immigrants of all backgrounds to transition into the United States. The organization, a nonprofit under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, provides assistance and guidance in order to help immigrants secure employment, education, and other vital resources. BRACE is dedicated to preserving the cultural identity of each individual it serves, and to provide the tools needed to make a successful transition to American life. Through education, advocacy, and culturally competent service provision, BRACE stands at the forefront of the fight for immigrant rights, and works to ensure that each person can live a life of dignity and prosperity.

Oil Painting

The oil painting classes here at Brace are taught by the artist Lucia Baltazar Borges, born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Many of her artworks have been displayed in exhibitions throughout Brazil. She began teaching oil painting in Vitoria, Brazil in 1980 and in 1985 she was a teacher at SENAC in São Luiz. In 1988 she moved to the United States where she continues to teach.

The objective of the BRACE Jaguars is to teach children from the ages of 5 to 12 the basics of soccer while simultaneously promoting physical activity and sportsmanship.

Capoeira

Capoeira is a type of martial art that combines elements of fighting, acrobatics, dancing and rituals in a very elegant way. Capoeira is practiced by two people at a time. It helps you build physical strength, power, and flexibility as well as building confidence, concentration, courage and creativity. This course teaches kids between the ages of 5 – 12 the grace of Capoeira while also promoting fun and sportsmanship.
