Rhythmic gymnastics is a unique and captivating sport, combining the grace of ballet, the athleticism of gymnastics, and the creativity of cirque to create stunning performances with ribbon, ball, rope, hoop, and clubs. Rhythmic gymnasts are known for their impressive flexibility, and their awe-inspiring tosses and catches. This sport is extremely popular in Eastern Europe, and is steadily gaining traction in the United States.
The Low Country now has its very own rhythmic gymnastics training program, thanks to the Charleston School of Rhythmic Gymnastics. Founded in 2021 by Julianna Butterworth, a former rhythmic gymnast and master of teaching, the school focuses on creating great gymnasts and extraordinary students in an environment that is both rigorous and positive. This premier program is the first and only of its kind in the Low Country.
